Advertising is a popular topic but I won't bore you with the cliché things e.g Free/Paid advertising. You know about that already.
Advertising is a form of communication whose purpose is to affect/ influence customers to buy a product and service.
As a mentor once said; "Advertising business is a business of rejection."
In fact, stats show that more than 50% of advertising expenses worldwide waste. As an inexperienced marketer, odds are you're wasting more.
People hate ads unless it truly solves their problem or it's from a brand they really love. Let's look at both cases and how you can position your brand for it.
Case 1. One that truly solves their problem:
Here, advertising isn't about the ad, instead, it starts at the design/creation stage. Product creators and entrepreneurs must take out time to research customer pain points and model a solution to tackle it. The product is built, relying heavily on extensive customer feedback so that by the time the product is available to the market, there are already a few fans who preach about it to other potential customers. Running ads at this point becomes icing on the cake.
Case 2. When it's from a brand they love:
If Nike does an ad, believe me, I'm sold. We all have brands that we trust and admire, these brands have taken time to tell us strong, genuine stories and over the years, have been consistent in delivering their promise.
Here, what you can do is to approach decision makers in these brands and offer a deal. You'd have to research them extensively to know what they may need and know you can stand in the gap. For instance, if you know how to make hair, you can approach a skill acquisition center who already have customers but don't offer hairdressing and offer a partnership.
Brand here, could also be an influencer. Imagine Cristiano Ronaldo, Rihanna or Kendall Jenner endorsing your fashion brand? Or say you're starting up and a trusted entrepreneur like: Garyvee, Mark Cuban or Vuzi Thembekwayo says your product/service is the shit? The impact would be HUGEEEEE.
The question now is how do you get these big guns to talk about your brand? You can either pay them to talk about you (would likely cost $100,000+) or Listen to them.
How do I mean listen to them?
If you're building a brand that solves a unique problem, reach out to these influencers and ask what they think about it. Using their advice, plus feedback from users, keep improving your product. By the time it is ready, reach out to them again showing them your progress and how their advice has helped you. If you've done this, launch your product and tag them on social media, they'd likely comment and wish you good luck. If your progress is very good, they may repost your handle (you know how massive that is).
You can read blogs and books on marketing, sales and advertising if you want to go deeper. I recommend reading any of Brian Tracy, Grant Cardone or Seth Godin's books on the subject.
I'd stop here.
